Obituary of Janice Emily Vanlandingham

Janice Bilik Vanlandingham , age 73, of Southern Wind Manor, Pittsburg, TX died on Friday, February 27, 2015 at East Texas Medical Center in Pittsburg, from medical complications. She was born August 21, 1941 in Chicago, IL to Emily and Alphonse Bilik. She was a high school graduate of St. Catherine Academy, Springfield, KY. She received her bachelor’s degree from Western KY University and her masters and PhD from Mississippi State University. Janice was an educator at Auburn University and in her later years at North East Texas Community College. She had a love of learning and delighted in helping her students excel in their field of study. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Calvin Vanlandingham, her parents, Alphonse and Emily Bilik and her sister, Nancy Bilik Tatum. Janice is survived by her sons, Stephen and Stacey Vanlandingham, brother Robert Bilik, sister Patricia Walden, special friend Dianna Woods and her wonderful grandchildren, Gabrielle, Elizabeth and Mason Vanlandingham. Jan was a member of Saint William Laud Episcopal Church. She took great pleasure in helping raise her grandchildren and provided encouragement and guidance. When life gave her challenges, she faced each day with a smile, a kind word and served as a positive role model. She was loved by all those around her. A memorial service and mass of burial will be held at Saint William Laud Episcopal Church at a later date followed by burial at Rose Hill Cemetery in Pittsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jan Vanlandingham Memorial Scholarship Fund at North East Texas Community College.
