Obituary of Betty Zane Cummings
Betty Zane Cummings, age 88, of Ozark passed away Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Ozark Nursing and Care Center.
Betty was born April 28, 1931 in Leola, South Dakota to George Washington and Laura Smith. She was a graduate of Willard High School and received her Masters Degree from Southwest Texas University Betty was a R.N. at Baylor Hospital for a couple of years, she later became the Director of Nursing for Red River County Hospital. Later she became the Director of Nursing under Gladys Edwards at M&S Hospital in Pittsburg and assisted in obtaining the hospital accreditation. She retired from the State of Texas Human Resources Department where one of her duties was nurse at the Capital in Austin, Texas when the legislature was in session. Betty was a very active member of her church wherever she lived.
Survivors include three daughters, Rebecca Ann Swadley, Rosemarie Davis and husband, Russell, and Ruthetta Richey and husband, Greg; four grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; one brother, George Washington "Bud" Smith; four sisters, Bunnee Carl, Veloria Butler, Rosie Britton, and Ruby Wagaman; and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Bob Swadley, Loui Lindeman and Elmer Cummings; and her parents George and Laura Smith
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Camp County, Texas with Bro. West Haefs and Bro. Clayton Watkins officiating. Interment will be in the Piney Grove Cemetery. Local arrangement are under the directions of Erman Smith Funeral Home in Pittsburg, Texas.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time, Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Piney Gove Baptist Church.
