I am so deeply saddened over the passing of this beautiful lady. I remember in 1991 I was a scared teenage boy who was going to desert storm. But letters from children came to soldiers that were written by her classroom. Almost 30 years ago and I remember, they remember, this remarkable woman

My dear friend Jana...I taught with Jana at Union Hill. I taught Kindergarten but moved to 4th grade this year so that we could teach together. Jana was precious and every time we got together was a blast. Jeff and I would meet Jana and Charlie almost every Wednesday night at Papa Nachos for dinner. We traveled to Fort Worth for a weekend last summer and saw Lonestar at Billy Bob's and took in a Ranger game. She was a huge supporter of our school. Jana took my girls, Kaylee and Jenna, and loved them and they adored her. They affectionately called her Aunt Jana. I'm going to miss you my dear friend. I love you! Until we meet again...Love, Dina

I moved to Pittsburg in 1988, after my grandparents divorce. I had gone to private school, in Houston, K-3rd grade. Ms. Duncan (Wilson) was my fourth grade teacher. She was sweet, kind, patient, and nurturing. She made learning fun and was passionate and dedicated. She made my transition so easy. Jana will be greatly missed.

I haven’t been back to Pittsburg in years and have lost touch with many of the family members. Brenda Duncan Shornick passed this news to me. I immediately remembered baby sitting for Jana & her brothers many years ago—as well as the many Duncan get-togethers. My deepest sympathies to her family. Thinking of all of you.

Jana was my second cousin. We both grew up here, so we had many experiences with things like Bible School at FUMC. We sang together in the choir, and she was able to sing my solo at Easter one year when I lost my voice. She always knew all the music, and I knew she could step in for me.
My son struggled with reading in his first couple of years at school. But Jana changed all that and created a life-long reader of him by her skills and encouragement. His love of reading and writing led him to a journalism degree. We are forever thankful he was in her classroom.
Gone way too soon. She has left a host of loved ones behind.
