Obituary of F.M. "Yank" Howell

Francis Marion “Yank” Howell died on December 31, 2014,in Pittsburg, TX He was born to the late Bryan and Vaughn Howell November 10, 1925. After serving in the US Navy from 1943-1946, and being awarded the Bronze Medal, Yank moved to Marshall, TX, where he met and married Katherine “Kit” Thomas November 1947 and graduated from East Texas Baptist University in May 1952 Mr. Howell was preceded in death by his wife Kit; a sister, Katherine Brandick; and three brothers: Dennis Howell of Chickasaw, AL, Bryan Howell of Lakeland, FL, and Jim Howell of Mobile, AL He is survived by his son Stephen Thomas Howell and wife Ann of Rowlett, TX and a granddaughter, Amanda Katherine Darr and husband David of Katy, TX Yank worked at Lone Star Steel from October 1953-February 1979. He later worked for Dorchester Oil, 1981-1986. In retirement, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed following sports, especially baseball and football. The memorial service will be at St. William Laud Episcopal Church in Pittsburg on January 10 at 11:00 a.m. Yank was a loyal founding member of St. Laud’s Episcopal Church and he will be missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the American Heart Association.
