Obituary of Roy Lee "John" Kirkes

Mr. Roy Lee "John" Kirkes, 91, of Pittsburg, passed away on Friday, July 13, 2018 in Pittsburg. He was born on February 15, 1927 in Tuskahoma, Oklahoma to William Richard and Onie Francis Carlton Kirkes.

He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where he served as deacon for 27 years, he was also a Mason and was retired as a welder supertindent with Brown and Root where he also taught welding.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Geraldine "Dean" Hilderbrand Kirkes of Pittsburg; daughters; June Kirkes Owens of Aransas Pass, Texas, Faye Kirkes Turrentine and husband Elroy of Pittsburg, Texas, grandchildren; Richard Owens Jr. and wife Rachael of Yoakum, Texas, Brian Owens and wife Shannon of Corpus Christi, Texas, Amy Hammonds and husband Will of Paris Texas, great grandchildren; Kelsi Owens, Abigail Owens, Ethan Owens, Caleb Marshall, KarLee Owens, Hannah Marshall, HayLee Hammonds, and Carter Owens, brother, Wayland Kirkes and wife Kay of Inola, Oklahoma, sisters; Cannie Goodson of Tuskahoma, Oklahoma, Claudean Burns of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Louise Medders and husband Johnnie of McAlister, Oklahoma, Zella Trowbridge and husband Carroll of Talihina, Oklahoma, Beverly Panach of Braman, Oklahoma, sister in law Peggy Kirkes of Redoak, Oklahoma, several nieces and nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Greely Kirkes, Grady Kirkes, MC Kirkes, and Crockett Kirkes, sister, Iwana Kirkes, and his son in law Richard Owens.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. At Erman Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Stracener officiating with Ethan Owens, Caleb Marshall, Carter Owens, Gerald Kirkes, Michael Kirkes and Randy Kirkes serving as pallbearers and Elroy Turrentine, Will Hammonds, Wayland Kirkes, Norman Poe, Rex Minchew as honorary pallbearers,with internment at Macedonia Cemetery in Pittsburg, visitation will be Monday July 16, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel.
