I am saddened to hear of Virgil's passing. He was a very special person to me during my childhood, and I loved the family so much during their time in Poteau. Virgil was a very kind soul and he did a lot for our family. My heart goes out to his children and everyone who loves him.

I was so sad to hear of Virgil's passing. I graduated with Virgil at Hartford High School in 1971 and considered him to be one of the nicest people I have ever known. He was always friendly and kind to others and quick with a smile. I had always hoped to see Virgil again someday and now it will have to be in heaven. My heart and prayers go out to his wife, Melinda, his children and other family members. I know you all will miss him greatly as will many, many others.

One of the fondest memories I have of Your father, is him in the kitchen cooking his sweet chilly. He always took the time to treat me like part of the family. I will never forget that. I am overwhelmed with sorrow and my heart aches for your loss. Please know how much I loved your father and that I will never forget the love he shared with me. Thank you Virgil.

How do I say goodbye to my Big Brother? Don't know how or if I can. My heart is broken can't imagine going through life without you. No we didn't talk every day but I knew you were always there for me if needed.
So all I can say is until we are together again I will be there for Melinda and the kids if they should ever need anything as you were for me
Melinda there are no words I can say except that I feel your heart ache and I love you and the kids so very much and I will always be here for whatever y'all may need.My brother found so much happiness with you so thank you for loving him as much as you do.

Those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed, and very dear.

Our hearts are sadden by the passing of a wonderful man and friend. Melinda and Virgil were the true example of what love should be between a husband and wife. Virgil will be missed, but we know one day, we will all be together again. Our prayers are with Melinda and her family during this time. We love you.

We were great friends in Poteau, OK back in the '80s. After we both moved we lost contact for almost 30 yrs. One day I "googled" his name and found 4 people of his name, but only one of the appropriate age. I sent a short letter saying if he was the Virgil Faires I knew in Poteau, give me a call; otherwise just trash the letter. A few days later the phone rang, and the resulting conversation was pure joy for both of us. We agreed to meet in McKinney, and at first sight it was just like old times. No handshake, rather a long and strong embrace at having reunited. For about four years Virgil & I would meet periodically in McKinney and visit for about 4 hours. Once he was on his way to conduct a wedding in OK City, and spent the night with us. We exchanged books and ideas regularly. Every meeting was concluded with an embrace and "I love you, brother." On one occasion my wife & I surprised him by driving to Pittsburg on a Sunday to hear him preach. We spent most of that afternoon with Virgil & Melinda in their home. I'm sure we both anticipated many more years of friendship, and now he's gone too soon. Those years will always be special to me because we were able to share so much during our meetings. Virgil was a man of extraordinary insight & intellect, and knowing him made me a better man. I shall miss him tremendously. Rest in peace, my brother.

It was my good fortune both to know Virgil as a friend and to call him a brother in Christ. I am deeply saddened by his sudden departure from this life at such an early age and am certain that his good family is grieving beyond what words can describe. But those that knew Virgil are confident that his residence is now an eternal home in heaven and a home that he has spent his entire life preparing himself and countless others for. I so appreciate his great work in the Lord's vineyard throughout his career and am thankful for his love for the truth of the gospel and his fellow man. May God be with the family today and everyday going forward, relying upon the countless good memories and the hope of seeing him again someday in heaven.
