Obituary of James Darryl Cooper

James "Darryl" Cooper passed away at his home in Leesburg on Wednesday, November 9 at the age of 65. Darryl was born August 4, 1951 in Amarillo, Texas to C.W. and Doris T. Cooper. After he graduated highschool, Darryl joined the US Army and served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1972. On May 29, 1971 he wed Barbara Taylor. Over the next 45 years the couple would laugh, love and raise a family. He was a skilled welder and mechanic, and a member of the Boilermaker's Union. Darryl worked for many years as a farmer and rancher. He was also a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Cooper; two sons: Anton Cooper and wife Kim of Pittsburg, and Justin Cooper and wife April of Pittsburg; as well as 7 grandchildren: Dakotah Cooper, Shyanne Cooper, Jordan Lane, Tyler Cooper, Tanner Cooper, Graycie Cooper and Breanna King; two great-grandchildren: Thor and Lylah King; a brother: Clarence Cooper, Jr. of Fritch, Texas; two sisters: Brenda Cooper of Amarillo, and Stelcie Schwegler of New York. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many friends. Darryl was preceded in death by his parents: C.W. and Doris Cooper abd brother; Lester paul Cooper and sister; Sylvia Ann Monk. Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Erman Smith Funeral Home with Brother Chris Jones officating. Burial will follow at Leesburg Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
