Obituary of Robert Donald Jones
Robert Donald "Bobby" Jones, age 76, of Pittsburg, passed away Friday, April 1 surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Bobby was born May 13, 1939 in Lone Camp, Texas to Robert and Eunice Nolan Jones.
Bobby grew up on a ranch, where his Dad raised cattle and farmed peanuts. He graduated from Santo High School in 1957. He too, became a peanut farmer for 17 years in Erath County, later becoming a propane gas dealer in Erath and Palo Pinto Counties. At the age of 40, he sold his businesses and joined Farm Bureau as an insurance agent. He retired from Allstate Insurance Company in 1999, after spending 20 years in the business.
On May 11, 1968 he became a Master Mason in the Santo Masonic Lodge No. 836, and later served as Master from 1970 to 1971. He was a plural member with Frank Sexton Lodge No. 206 in Pittsburg, and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite.
Bobby was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he faithfully cooked for the Men's Prayer Breakfast for 20 years. After he became ill, with needed assistance he continued to attend Church and the breakfast when possible. He was a longtime member of the Lions Club and was a Melvin Jones Fellow. He was a master craftsman, making items for his wife to paint and have in her art shop.
Bobby married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Bailey Holleman on November 25, 1966, in Midland, Texas. The couple have made Pittsburg their home for the past 35 years.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia Ann Jones; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Sandy Jones, of Kingsland, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Shana and Ricky Wartes, of Lipan, Texas; two brothers: Randy Jones, of Santo, Texas and Raymond Jones, of Lone Camp, Texas; and a sister, Nila Kostiha, of Gordon, Texas. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Eunice Jones; a daughter, Kay Holleman; and a brother, Terry L. Jones.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Monday, April 4, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 5, at the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg with Pastor Steven Bloyd officiating, assisted by Rev. Hill Johnson. Graveside services followed by interment will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 6, at New Hope Cemetery in Lone Camp, Texas.
