Obituary of Clarence Everett Garrett

Clarence Everett Garrett, age 93, passed away peacefully, Friday, March 25, 2016, in Pittsburg. He was born September 22, 1922 in Pittsburg to Fadie H. and Bessie Hardy Garrett. Everett served in the US Army Air Corps during World War 2, seeing action in Italy. After the German surrender in May 1945, Everett's unit was selected for transfer to the Pacific, but the war ended before they reached their new station. On January 23, 1943 while stationed in Portland, Oregon, Everett wed Evelyn Reynolds. During their 65 years of marriage they would laugh, love, and raise two sons: Phil and Mark. Following his military service Mr. Garrett worked for many years as the Pittsburg Postmaster. He is survived by his two sons: Phillip Garrett and wife Katherine, of Georgetown, Texas and Mark Garrett and wife Barbara, of Longview; along with five grandchildren: Kelly Chandrapal and husband Jason, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Amy Garrett, of Austin; Nathan Smith and wife Kristen, of Denver, Colorado; Zachary Smith, of Houston; and Mallory Cox and husband Jeremy, of Longview; as well as two great-grandchildren: Olivia Rose Cox and Vivienne Lake Smith; a multitude of nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Monday, March 28 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 29, also at the funeral home, with Virgil Faires officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
