Obituary of Joel Dyess

Joel Francis Dyess, 63, of Pittsburg, passed away Friday, January 1, 2016 in Frisco, Colorado. Joel was born on November 3, 1952 in Jefferson, Texas to J.F. Dyess and Mary Ruth Dyess. He attended Southwest Junior College on a basketball scholarship and also attended the University of Texas at Austin. Joel served in the Navy for 13 years, obtaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After his retirement from the Navy he worked for the United States Postal Service for a number of years. Joel was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed fishing and hunting, as well as watching sports. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, practical jokes and love of family. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Dyess, daughter Crystal Huff and husband Nicolas, former wife Julie Gale, two sons Joseph Dyess and wife Annie, Nate Dyess, and 3 grandchildren: Connor Dyess (11), Patrick Dyess (3) and Liam Dyess (1). He is also survived by his two brothers Michael Don Dyess and wife Gail and Jeffrey Lynn Dyess. He was preceded in death by his parents J.F. and Mary Ruth Dyess. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 9 at 2:00 P.M., at Erman Smith Funeral Home. Following the service, family and friends will gather at the First Baptist Church in Pittsburg to enjoy fellowship and refreshments.
