Obituary of Mattie Louise Ross

Mattie Louise McQuiston Ross, age 88, of Pittsburg, passed away Wednesday, October 21, in Mt. Pleasant. Mattie was born November 5, 1926 in Houston, Texas to Robert Lee and Myrtle Lorenz McQuiston. Mrs. Ross enjoyed a lengthy career as a telephone operator with AT&T and South Western Bell. She was a devout Christian and a fixture at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pittsburg, and enjoyed volunteering at the Pittsburg Senior Citizens Center. She was a loving wife and devoted mother, and later, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She is survived by her daughter: Donna Applegate, of Pittsburg; seven grandchildren: Rhonda DeLynn Ross, Michael Wayne Ross Jr., Brian Keith Applegate, Jeffery Duane Applegate, Shelly Denise Ross Orlando, Shanna Diane Ross, and Sherrie DeLynn Ross; twelve great granddaughters and three great grandsons; one great-great granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Robert Lee and Myrtle McQuiston; her husband: Roy Reed Ross; son: Michael Wayne Ross; a brother: Vernon McQuiston; and two sisters: Helen McQuiston Ross and Elizabeth McQuiston Marta. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, October 23, at Erman Smith Funeral Home in Pittsburg. Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Sunday, October 26 at Brookside Funeral Home in the Chapel in Houston. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery.
