Obituary of James Cavender

Mr. James Cavender, 87, founder of Cavender’s Boot City, was born March 22, 1931 in Idabel, Ok to Lois Otis “L.O.” Cavender and Loyce Estelle Stewart Cavender and passed away May 29, 2018 in Tyler, Texas.

 Mr. Cavender was a member of First Baptist Church in Pittsburg, Texas and served in the United States Air Force. James was the founder and CEO of Cavender’s, a major Texas based western wear retail chain that now has stores in 11 states. James was known for his incredible work ethic, disposition and joy when helping customers. He was fortunate to attract many loyal associates over the last 53 years; many have been with the company for 30 or more years.

He is survived by his wife Patricia Ann Cavender of Pittsburg; sons, Joe Cavender and wife Nancy of Tyler, Mike Cavender of Houston, and Clay Cavender and wife Jacqueline of Tyler; one daughter, Traci Cavender of Austin; grandchildren, Whitney Edwards and husband Todd, Morgan Cavender, McClain Devine and husband Andrew, Drew Cavender and wife Kayla, Cooper Cavender, Colton Cavender, Conley Cavender, and Cline Cavender; and great-grandchildren, Kingston Edwards, Knox Edwards, and Wyatt Devine.

There will be a private family graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery in Pittsburg Friday, June 1, 2018 followed by a public memorial service at First Baptist Church Pittsburg at 3:00 P.M. Friday, June 1, 2018.

The family will receive friends between 5:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church Pittsburg.

Pallbearers will be Drew Cavender, Cooper Cavender, Colton Cavender, Key Coker, Ken Pilgrim, and David Hoover. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Steele, Bert Hailey, Stephen Groce, Ron Whitten, Tommy Morris, Roy Green, J.W. Hooper, Bob Frazier, Don Graham, Rae Moore, Julio Arriola, Mickey Eddins, Ricky Rape, Melvin Cavender, Odis Marsh, Bert Louthan, Randy Watson, Billy McCain, Jeff Howell, Neil Hinson, Brian Henson, John Joiner, David Baker, and Mike Hughes.
