Joy Manley

Obituary of Joy Jean Boyd Manley

Joy Jean Boyd Manley of Pittsburg, Texas passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016 as a result of Vascular Dementia. Joy was born to Edward C & Nora M Boyd in Pecos, Texas on May 20, 1936. She grew up with 12 siblings in the small west Texas town of Kent, near the Ft. Davis Mountains. Joy graduated from Van Horn High School, and moved to Lubbock, Texas where she married Doyle Manley on June 7, 1957. Everyone who ever met Joy immediately knew they were in the presence of a Joyful spirit. She had a way of turning any situation into a positive one, and facing the unknown with a pursuit of hope. She had a great sense of humor, and faced life with a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face. She maintained her love of basketball, biscuit making, bicycle riding, skating, walking, and laughing with others as long as her body allowed. Even as her disease progressed, she maintained her joyful spirit and enduring effort to help and serve others. She lived a life bringing joy and sunshine to others, and she loved to tell others about the joy and SONshine that Jesus brought into her own life. She was an active member of the Church of Christ, serving alongside Doyle as a partner in ministry, faithfully teaching children’s Bible Classes, visiting friends and strangers in nursing homes, hospitals, and homes; truly demonstrating God’s love on this earth. Joy has walked into the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ, and joined her husband, Doyle and son Ronald in Heaven, saying “So Long” to her twin sister Jolly, younger sister Jerry, and children and spouses, Reggie & Cheryl Manley of Pittsburg, Texas, Ray & Valerie Manley of Gladewater, Texas, Nora and Mike Gravois of Georgetown, Texas, and Melissa & Rusty Robertson of Pittsburg, Texas, and Rex & Nici Manley also of Pittsburg, Texas. She has left a legacy of Godly Spirit and Love in her 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and numerous family and friends. Even though her earthly body is no longer with us, her spirit of joy, unconditional love, service, forgiveness, mercy, and grace remains forever in our hearts. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Erman Smith Funeral Home in Pittsburg, Texas, and a celebration of Joy’s life will follow at 2:00 pm. A family graveside service will follow at CrossRoads Cemetery in Pittsburg.
