Obituary of Peggy Lou Bergh

Peggy Chappell Bergh, 95 of Austin, Texas died from heart complications at the Heart Hospital of Austin Tuesday evening, Sept. 13, 2016. Peggy was born on March 21, 1921 in Pittsburg, Texas to Gertrude and Charles Chappell, P.E. Peggy attended Pittsburg High School and graduated from Texas Women’s University in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts. She married Army 2nd Lt. Albert Gordon Bergh on August 30, 1946 and later had two sons, Gordon and Charles. Peggy was a teacher for many years. She taught art and technical drawing in public schools and local junior colleges in Pasadena, California; Agana, Guam, and Pittsburg, Texas. She was an artist at heart who loved to sculpt and paint. She enjoyed walking the halls of museums soaking in the nuances of great artists. She expressed her passion for life through active support of her family, the Daughters of the American Revolution and as long-term member of the Pittsburg Presbyterian Church. She faced life’s challenges poised in quiet strength and faith, living it fully to her end. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Bergh, two sisters Lucien and Betty, and half-brother Charles Chappell, Jr. Surviving her loss are sons A. Gordon Bergh, Jr. and wife Tricia of Hawkins, and son Charles Bergh and wife Christie of Dripping Springs; and grandchildren Brandi (husband Luke Sorreto), Christi (husband Brian Wade and daughter Brynn), Zachary, Christian, and Kallie. The family wants to extend a special thanks to all of the staff at the Heart Hospital of Austin and to friends and staff at Westminster. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 22 at the First Presbyterian Church in Pittsburg, family friend, Revered Danny Hobby will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 21, at the funeral home.
