Obituary of Hubert L. Pilgrim

Hubert Leuis Pilgrim, age 90, of Pittsburg, passed awat at his home Saturday morning, March 5, surrounded by his family. Mr. Pilgrim was born October 11, 1925 in Titus County to Aubrey and Pearl Storey Pilgrim. He served in the US Navy during World War 2. During his service he was station in Alaska for some time in response to Japanese landings in the Aelutian Islands. In 1949 he married the love of his life, Edith Harris. In the next 66 years, they would laugh, love and raise two children. After his military service, Hubert returned to Pittsburg where he ran a successful floor refinishing business for 55 years. After his retirement he kept busy farming and ranching. He was proud to be a Christian, and was a member of the Reeve's Chapel Methodist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Edith Harris Pilgrim; daughter Reba Montgomery and husband Ronald, of Pittsburg; as well as two grandsons: Toby Montgomery and Kevin Montgomery; two sisters: Christell Newman and Bertha Capps; numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father: Aubrey Pilgrim; mother: Pearl Storey Pilgrim Sargent; son: Harry Pilgrim; and a brother, Aubrey Bassett Pilgrim. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 9 at Erman Smith Funeral Home with Reverend Melissa Crawford officiating. Burial will follow at Reeve's Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 8, at the funeral home.
