Obituary of George Washington Lankford

George Washington Lankford, 94, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 18, 2017. He was born July 4, 1922 in Gadsden, Alabama to Henry Milton Lankford and Adar Lou Kemp Lankford. George served in the United States Navy during World War II as the Coxwain of a landing craft in the Pacific Theater. George married Vada Louisa Mitchell on December 19, 1945 in Gadsden, Alabama. Mr. Lankford was a dedicated foreman at Lone Star Steel. During his decades long career, he worked diligently to foster a strong work ethic in his coworkers. A dedicated family man, George brought out the best in others and enjoyed many life long friendships. He is survived by 4 sons: Randy Lankford of Pittsburg, TX, Stephen Lankford of Atlanta, TX, Roger & Cindy Lankford of Pittsburg, TX and David & Sharon Lankford of Spring, TX; 8 Grandchildren; 16 Great-grandchildren; a sister: Ann Bishop of Pittsburg, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents: Milton and Adar Lankford; his wife of 55 years: Vada Louisa Mitchell Lankford; 9 brothers: Henry, Perman, Charlie, Eldred, Robert, Elbert, Honey, Bub, and James Lankford; and 4 sisters: Ida Works, Willie C. Lankford, Christine Sewell and Mary Phillips. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Erman Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Kyle Smith presiding. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Pittsburg, TX. Visitation will be Friday, April 21, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Erman Smith Funeral Home.
